Interim Update

The Executive Committee is very close to naming an Interim for Central Christian Church. In addition, the Nominating Committee plans to ask the Leadership Council for approval of the Search and Call Committee for a permanent pastor. In both areas, once a decision has been made and approved, the Congregation will be informed. Thank-you for your patience and understanding throughout this process.

Cleaning our Church

We need your help with weekly cleaning!

Due to Budget constraints the church has had to cancel our cleaning service. Beginning in September, members of the Leadership Council and their families will kick-off a new rotation by volunteering to clean the church each week. There will be a sign-up so that all church members can help with this task. Each family will only need to help a few weeks out of the year if everyone takes a turn.

Annual Fall Kick-Off & Chicken Barbeque

Please join us Sunday, September 7th! Worship begins at 10:30am followed by a fabulous meal and wonderful fellowship. Barbecued chicken will be provided but we ask that you bring a dish to share for the potluck. We could use volunteers for set up, kitchen help, grilling, and clean up. Let us know if you can pitch in! Remember this is a great time to invite friends and family to share this fun event.

Elders of the Church

During this time of transition, please contact a Central Christian Elder to notify the church of any emergencies or upcoming surgeries, etc. The Elder of the Month is Russ Swanson, 822-7035. Other members of the Council of Elders include:

Gary Conn

Jim Robinette

Bethel Robinette

Wanda Roberts

Phyllis VandenBerg

Note from the Moderator

As your moderator, I am feeling God’s continued blessing as we are in a period of transition. Recently, I have read three different documents that talk about what to do when there is changing pastoral leadership within the church.

Four points that I want to highlight are:

  1. Be Faithful and Attend Services

  2. Pray for the Church

  3. Continue to contribute financially and with your time

  4. Let your voice be one of Unity

Please continue to support Central Christian Church in these ways. As I said in an earlier letter, the church is not a building, a steeple or a pastor. The church is the people. With God’s help, WE are the church together.

It is also important to continue to be in communication when questions arise. This includes making sure you are reading your Newsletter, Sunday bulletin and checking on the bulletin boards in the Fountain room. Please know that the Elders are available for Pastoral Concerns & Visitations and your Leadership Council is working very hard to keep church operations running. Feel free to contact me if you are unsure of whom to speak with about a concern.

God’s Peace be with you,

Ann Reinhard

New Bible Study

A new Bible Study is forming on Tuesday evenings or Friday mornings. The Book is called

“Whose Voice Is It? (Learning to Listen to God)” and will begin the week of September 9th. If you are interested or would like more information please see Caryle Hackman or Wanda Roberts. Books do need to be ordered so let them know as soon as possible.

Community Flea Market/Church Rummage Sale

On Saturday August 23rd from 9:00am-3:00pm we will be hosting a flea market/rummage sale. The plan is to invite our neighbors to join together and sell items on our church grounds. Space is available for a small rental fee of $20 per area. If you have some “stuff” you would like to sell plan to rent a space and make a little extra cash! Or if you just need to empty some space at home you can donate your items to the church for our indoor rummage sale happening at the same time. Last year this was a very well attended event and we need lots of help. Please see Tamara Rowe if you are interested or have any questions.

Church Supply Shower

No silly games to play and you don’t even have to wrap your gift! Just consider donating a supply to the church. Since we are not registered a any department store, here are some of the items on our “wish list”;

  • Toilet paper

  • Paper towel

  • Communion purple grape juice

  • Stamps

  • Cookies for coffee hour

  • Punch

  • Cups and napikins

  • Computer printer/copier paper

  • Stamps

  • Scotch tape

Supper House

We will be serving the community on Thursday August 21st and would love your help. Volunteers are needed from 4:30pm-7:00pm at St. Alphonsus Church located on the corner of Lafayette and Leonard. A sign up sheet is located on the bulletin board by the coffee area.

Walk for Congolese Women

On August 23rd at 11:00am a two mile walk is scheduled to raise awareness of the violence against women in the Congo as a form of warfare. Due to terrorization from numerous militias these women are being raped, tortured, abused and displaced. Later these women are often shunned by their families leaving them and their children no where to turn. Women to Women International gives these women a chance to rebuild their lives. The goal is to raise $10,000. All money raised goes directly to sponsor their basic needs, trauma counseling, job training and health education. If you are interested in walking or would like to make a donation please see Patient Marandura. The walk begins at City Hall and ends at Wealthy Theater.

Fall Office Hours

Beginning the week of August 25th the office hours for the secretary, Cindy Manikowski, will change back to Mon.-Thurs. from 2:00pm-5:00pm.

If you need to communicate to the church office outside of these hours please feel free to leave a voicemail message or to send an e-mail to cccgr@aol.com.
