1. Agenda/Minutes-Minutes from June accepted as presented. Agenda items added for Basement water issues and
Younkers Coupon Booklets.
2. Treasurer’s Report-Ron
Osgood presented the treasurer’s report. He presented the final numbers for the 2007-2008 fiscal year. The report was
accepted as presented.
3. Basement Water Issues-Harold
Bauer and the property committee are aware of the problem but Gary Conn and Ken Hewitt will brain storm with them to try and
come up the a possible solution.
4. Younkers Coupon Booklets-it was decided that with small amount
of time involved to participate this is a worthwhile opportunity to raise money. All of money raised from selling the booklets
goes directly to the church. Linda Green said she will organize this and Carol Tiemeyer will pick up the booklets.
5. Staff/Accompanist Update-Todd Wilkie has been our guest accompanist for the
past two Sundays. There is potential for permanent hire. Ken Hewitt, Ann R. and Ron Hurd will look further into filling that
staff position. It was clarified that the budget does not allow for paying an accompanist and a praise team leader every
Sunday, so the positions are both for less than 52 Sundays and require alternating musical leadership. The Worship Planning
Team and Executive Committee will need to work out a schedule of musical leadership responsibilities to be sure worship needs
are covered consistently.
6. Search and Call Update-Gary Conn, Russ Swanson and Ann Reinhard met with
a potential candidate for the interim position. More interviews will be scheduled to meet with more candidates. The interim
normally does not accept the permanent position with in the church under usual circumstances. Due to the large number of churches
seeking Disciples pastors and the small number of available candidates, the Leadership Council has decided that this stipulation
will not be part of the contract for the interim chosen for this search. The interim will be allowed to be considered as a
possible candidate for the permanent position as well if desired, and included in the interview process along with
other candidates. The Permanent Pastor Search Committee will handle this second process after the Interim Minister is
chosen. The Executive Committee is looking at a start date of September or October for the Interim Minister. The
Council was reminded that the decision making process for the permanent pastor is spelled out in the current bylaws and needs
to be followed before any covenants are entered into for a permanent minister. The Search Committee needs to be appointed
by the standing Nominating Committee as soon as possible.
7. From the Moderator-Ann welcomed the new Council and is very excited about
all the fresh faces and about the possibilities ahead. She also discussed what she expects the structure of the meetings to
be and how she will try to keep the committee on task.
8. Words from Pastor Kris-Kris said good-bye to the Council and how she has
enjoyed serving the church for almost thirteen years. She also said that she is certain that Central Christian Church has
many wonderful opportunities ahead and she knows that we will continue to do great service for those in our community in the
name of Christ. Kris will continue to pray for us as we go thru this transitional period.
9. Ministry work w/ Time and Talent-the Leadership Council divided into groups
and wrote the names of those who have volunteered to help in the different areas of ministry within the church. Kris, Cindy
and Ann discussed the issue of janitorial services. Kris will notify Carolyn and Bob Burnside that we can no longer afford
to pay for their services. We will need to assign volunteers to do the cleaning.
10. Ministry Reports-Tamara Rowe presented a plan for getting better at welcoming
visitors and follow up, as well as contacting members who have not been in attendance for awhile to find out if there may
be some concerns they need help with or would like to address. Jason Silverthorne brought up ideas for advertising or other
ways to get Central Christian Church’s name “out there”. Jason will take the suggestions from Tamara
as the Outreach Representatives (Jason Silverthorne and Jackie Dawson) implement a system for inviting, greeting and follow
up with newcomers.
